Are you planning to throw a spring or summer party? If yes, then you should serve virgin pina colada this time. This drink is so rich tasting and refreshing that you would never miss the alcohol.

Originated mainly in Puerto Rico, the pina colada is nothing but an iced or blended cocktail. It is generally prepared with white rum, pineapple juice, and cream of coconut. But in this alcohol-free recipe, just discard the rum, and instead of coconut cream, use coconut milk.

As this recipe makes use of frozen pineapple pieces, you don’t have to add several ice cubes. You should start with just ¼ cup and you can add more in case you want to have a frostier drink. Make sure that you blend the drink up until you get the creamy and smooth consistency.

The traditional version of pina colada is usually garnished with either a maraschino cherry or pineapple wedge or both. So, feel free to garnish your virgin pina colada with whatever you like, including a paper umbrella.
So, without wasting time, let’s check out the virgin pina colada recipe.

• Ice ¼ cup
• Unsweetened pineapple juice ¾ cup
• Unsweetened coconut milk ¾ cup

Steps to follow for making virgin pina colada:

• If you use fresh pineapple, then you would want to add more ice cubes.
• Coconut milk comes in the canned variety and cartons. Either type works well for a drink. However, canned coconut milk makes a richer drink. You can extract milk directly from a coconut if you want.
• Before opening canned coconut milk, shake it properly because it tends to separate.

Recipe variations:

• Don’t have frozen pineapple? No worries. You can try out the coco colada recipe that blends cream of coconut, pineapple juice, and ice.
• You can add just a scoop of ice cream to get a smoothie-like texture.
• You can use palm or coconut sugar instead of using brown sugar. In case you are using a hard form of either sugar, then crush it using a muddler or a mortar and pestle into a consistency just like brown sugar.
• However, liquid sweeteners are great options too. Try 1 tablespoon of honey, agave nectar, or syrup, and if needed, add more.
