With savory and sweet tomato and chicken fried rice on the inside, Omurice is one of those recipes, which is loved by both grownups and kids alike in Japan. Well, this dish suits Western brunches and Asian themed parties at the same time.
Get familiar with Omurice:
Omuraisu or Omurice is a deadly combination of Rice and Omelet. Though it is not clear where the dish is actually originated; however, in Japan, it is considered western food or yōshoku.

Ingredients and their proportions for the rice:
• Cooked rice 1 cup
• Chopped onion 1
• Cleaned and bite-size chicken thigh 1
• Olive oil 1 teaspoon
• Black pepper powder as per your taste
• Salt as per taste
• Red chili sauce 1 tablespoon
• Chopped mixed vegetables ½ cup (Red bell pepper and green bell pepper are being used here)
• Soy sauce 1 teaspoon

• Whole eggs 2
• Milk 1 teaspoon
• Olive oil 1 teaspoon
• Shredded cheddar cheese 3 teaspoons
• Tomato pasta sauce as required
How to make yummilicious Omurice:
To make Japanese omelet rice, first, you will have to prepare all the ingredients. You can start by chopping onions and bell pepper. Don’t forget to cut the chicken thigh into bite-size pieces.
Take a shallow fry pan and add oil to it. Once the oil gets hot, add the onions until it is translucent and soft enough.
At this point, you will need to add the small chicken pieces to the pan and cook until your chicken pieces turn white and appear cooked. Make sure you have cooked chicken pieces well.
Time to add the mixed vegetables. Add pepper powder, salt, and chicken seasoning as well.
After that, add your cooked rice. Mix everything nicely until everything is well-combined. In case you are using leftover rice, then don’ forget to break the rice with fingers. Do it gently. This helps the rice to mix with other ingredients properly.
Time to add chili sauce, soy sauce, and mix everything well. Keep it aside.
Now you need to whisk milk and eggs in a bowl.
Over medium flame, heat oil and coat the pan’s surface with just a few drops of olive oil (not needed while using a good-quality non-stick pan).
Pour the mixture of egg and milk into the pan and using a ladle, spread it evenly.
Once it will start getting cooked on medium heat, sprinkle some shredded cheddar cheese and prepared rice over the omelet.
From the sides, carefully fold the omelet using a spatula and transfer it to your plate. Well, you can even cook your omelet on both sides, if you want.
Garnish your Japanese Omelet rice with ketchup and celery leaves with some shredded cheese.
